Coca Cola Australia using Foursquare

Coca Cola Australia using Foursquare
I noticed that Coca Cola Australia has recently set up a Foursquare compentition.
Basically what this competition involves is:
1. Adding the coke machine fairy to Foursquare as a friend, then they will send you clues
to your mobile about where the Coke fairy is heading.
2. The coke faily will then place a winning bottle in the machine each day.
3. Be number one to get to that machine then you will recieve a prize.
4. Shout out that you are their with the winning bottle then the fairy will arrive with a prize.
At the moment we are half way into September and I see only 682 friends on the page, I guess the user rates in Sydney are not crazy for Foursquare yet I would have expected a few more.
Deadmau5 Site hacked and Blackhat SEO
Sep 16th
Hi all I mentioned a few days ago that some one had hacked into the Deadmau5 website and also their webmaster tools account and added Viagra affiliate links.
I am surprised they have not still picked up this, the site is run by Virgin records and I have tried to email them.
Looking at the source code the hackers have used black hat in a hidden DIV to add a large amount of links to adult websites –
Another point is that this site is going crazy at the moment on Google Trends –
Search Engine Ranking Factors by SEOmoz Top 5
Sep 15th
I noticed this graph today I have seen it numerous times before, but thought I would post it on my blog =)
According to data from SEO moz here are the top five ranking factors in SEO –
1) Keyword Focused anchor texts in external links.
2) External link popularity quality and quantity of external links.
3) Diversity of link sources links from many unique link root domains.
4) Keyword use in the title tag.
5) Trustworthiness of the domain based on link distance form trusted domains.
Whilst I think this top 5 is quite strong, I feel [Exact] Keyword in the domain should be high up on the list!!
What are your top 5 ranking factors, please post them up here =)
How can Facebook justify Page rules for Jump On It?
Sep 14th
I have a problem with the way Facebook is monitoring Facebook pages, Sydney based company called “Jump on it” has created several Facebook pages which have gone viral the problem been these generic pages names do not represent the business name fairly.
The reason I am annoyed by this is because I own several large Facebook pages which have had generic names linked to websites I own. Facebook approached me and told me to add website urls or slogans to each page because they represent “generic concepts” for example I have “Tattoos” which has around 80,000 user base – page and Facebook said I needed to change the name to “Tattoos by Gangsta Tattoos”, The page is now verified but it does not have the same appeal as the old name.
Jump On it has been receiving a large amount of press recently with the use of their Facebook page “I Love Sydney” the reason is this page is generic how have they been able to promote their business for so long with the same name? Why isn’t the page “I Love Sydney by Jump On it” I now see the company has done the same thing for a whole bunch of areas for example: “I love Melbourne” & “I Love Auckland”. It would be quite evident that Facebook is aware of this page name yet I have a suspicion that as they are a ad spender on Facebook then they are aloud to use this name.
Here is the email I received when I tried to Authenticate my “Tattoos” page:
Unfortunately we will only be able to authenticate your Page if we change your Page’s name to Tattoos. We are requiring a byline because Pages should reflect the accurate voice of the person or the company that’s administering the Page. Please let us know if this is an acceptable alternative and we’ll make this change for you.
If you are unable to do so, your Page’s publishing rights will be blocked because it violates our Pages Terms of Use. Keep in mind, Facebook restricts the publishing rights of inauthentic Pages that impersonate other entities, represent generic concepts, spam users, or otherwise violate our Terms of Use. These policies are designed to ensure Facebook remains a safe, secure and trusted environment for all users.
I mean this stuff does sound like I am been a winger but I feel that if their are rules for one person on Facebook they should be the same for all because it is highly unfair.
What are your thoughts on this? I think it is a big issue -
Deadmau5 weird Google Search Results
Sep 13th
Today I was looking at Google trends and I saw that the popular DJ Deadmau5 was ranking 7th for the hottest search query of the day due to his recent publicity around the VMA awards.
As I always like to check out who is ranking on SEO for big trending terms and see what tactics they are using I noticed something very interesting on the Deadmau5 official site ranking first the top site link was “Buy Viagra online no prescription” this got me thinking how was this happening! the first thought was a paid text link on deadmau5s site was picking this up! (not the case no paid external links or display units) Then I thought some one must have hacked into the official Google webmaster tools account for this website and places this link here.
Has any one seen something like this for a high traffic search term?

Google Instant Search Explained

Google Instant Search Explained
Google today released their newest search product Google Instant, an instant preview in their search results. This means the entire page display is now based on an algorithm which predicts exactly what you will type. If you type more characters and words the search box will change numerous times. This is similar to the search suggestion box which currently shows on Google.
You can view a live example of Google instant here -
http://www.google.com/instant/
The new Google Instant is currently not live in Australia, according to Google it should be in the coming weeks.
Currently if you visit Google.com it is live for all users that are logged into your Google account.
The problems we will face with this increased impressions for websites, if the user stays on a page for more then 3 seconds it will mean and impression is counted.
This is a massive change for the search giant Google especially for paid search advertisers, it is early days but it is highly likely that
search impressions will go up rather then down.
I will post more information on this change as it comes to me =)
Yahoo developed Instant Search technology in 2006
Sep 9th
I have just read a great article from a ex Yahoo Product Manager who has said that Yahoo developed similar
technology to Googles Instant search way back in 2006, it is amazing that this search product was
never released by Yahoo as it could have been a real game changer for the search company.
who knows Yahoo could have been a much larger search heavy weight if they brought out these products
back in 2006? It is all a case of what if? Also I would love to see what other products they were working
on back in the day.

Possible Big Change to the Google Search Interface
Sep 8th
So I just noticed a article on Mashable about how the Google logo changes as you type, this is a big move for the search giant.
This will push more emphasis on long tail keywords which are lesser targeted by SEO, it is important to place an emphasis on deep linking your website when undergoing the SEO process.
http://mashable.com/2010/09/08/google-color-logo/
See how Google is changing the logo, I pick they may change the search function to something like the interface seen in this video,
which I have posted numerous times before.
Post your thoughts below?
